RESEARCH AND TRIAL OF NEW MATERIALS TO REDUCE COSTS AND ENHANCE COMPETITIVENESS OF WOVEN PP BAG PRODUCTS

The woven PP bag product line faces significant competition as the production and supply market for this product is developing rapidly. Manufacturers are investing in modern machinery and technology, resulting in increasingly diverse and abundant products. Woven PP bags are primarily used for storing agricultural goods. However, in the broader economic context, especially with China’s struggling economy and reduced agricultural imports, the demand for packaging has sharply declined. This leads to an oversupply and increased competition, particularly in pricing.

Based on management reports and the leadership’s directives, the Safety-Quality Technical Department and the Packaging Plant Operations Department have evaluated and identified opportunities to enhance product quality and reduce costs. One solution immediately researched and tested is using PP powder instead of PP pellets as the primary raw material for packaging production.

Based on the research, PP powder is a semi-finished product in the production process of PP pellets. To transform it from powder to pellet form, the following steps are required: heating to melt the powder, extrusion to form pellets, cooling with water, centrifugal drying, and finalizing as PP pellets. PP powder has technical specifications similar to PP pellets and retains all features of PP pellets. Thus, when using PP powder as the primary production material, the quality of the final products remains unchanged.

The results show that packaging products made from PP powder meet quality, safety, and aesthetic standards. The manufacturing process reduces energy usage by 5–7%, which lowers costs and decreases CO2 emissions during production.
