On July 8, 2025, at Dung Quat Refinery, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) held a launch ceremony for its new product, Sulfur Pastilles. This marks a significant milestone in BSR\u2019s journey of research, technological innovation, and strategic development of by-products from the refining and petrochemical process.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The event was attended by BSR representatives, including Mr. Bui Ngoc Duong \u2013 Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang \u2013 President & CEO, alongside members of the Board of Directors, the Board of General Directors, the Refinery\u2019s leadership, and heads of the professional expertise division. Also present were representatives from key partners, including the joint venture of Vietnam Petrochemical Technology JSC and Binh Son Petroleum Packaging and Trading JSC. <\/p>\n\n

Previously, sulfur at Dung Quat Refinery was produced in liquid form, requiring temperatures between 120 – 150\u00b0C to maintain stability. This posed challenges in storage, transportation, and safety. Furthermore, the market for liquid sulfur was limited due to the need for specialized equipment and infrastructure for handling. <\/p>\n\n

In alignment with the Petrovietnam efforts to implement Resolution 57-NQ\/TW, which emphasizes breakthroughs in scientific innovation and technology, BSR developed a clear roadmap to research, invest in, install, and operate a sulfur pastillation and packaging system directly at the Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU). This initiative opens new pathways to diversify product offerings, reduce logistics costs, and access broader markets.<\/p>\n\n

From a by-product sold at low prices, sulfur has been transformed by BSR into a high-value product that has been positively received by the market. With both SRU1 and SRU2 now operational, BSR has significantly enhanced its ability to process high-sulfur crude oil, thereby expanding its input crude basket. The production of BSR-branded Sulfur Pastilles demonstrates not only flexibility and proactivity in operations but also the company\u2019s continuous commitment to innovation. With its stable and safe properties, the product meets the high technical standards required in industries such as DAP\/NPK fertilizer production, sulfuric acid manufacturing, pesticides, paper, rubber, and metallurgy. <\/p>\n\n
